Stephen Sanders, M.D.

After graduating from Brigham Young University, Dr. Stephen Sanders attended one of our country’s top medical schools at Baylor College of Medicine where he obtained his doctorate in medicine and additional training in the field of Medical Ethics at the Center for Medical Ethics and Health Policy in Houston, Texas. During his specialty training in obstetrics and gynecology at Scott & White Memorial Hospital, affiliated with the Texas A&M College of Medicine, he was the recipient of numerous research awards and served as the Junior Fellow Vice Chair and later Junior Fellow Chair of the Texas Section of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the Resident Representative to the Texas Association of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.

After completing his specialty training in 2002 he entered private practice in Southern Utah where he founded one of the most technologically progressive and patient-centered practices in the region with the Cedar City Insitute of Women’s Health. He has been actively involved in multiple endeavors that have helped to better integrate technology in improving patient care, having served as a board member for e-MDs and TouchMDs, which he helped design.

As a physician, Dr. Sanders enjoys all aspects of obstetrics and gynecology but has a deep fondness for obstetrics and helping couples with fertility challenges as well as new minimally invasive gynecologic surgical techniques and helping menopausal women with bioidentical hormone therapy.

Mercedes Carter, PA-C.

Mercedes Carter is a certified physician assistant that joined our clinic in the Summer of 2022. She was born and raised in Logandale Nevada. She graduated from Southern Utah University with a bachelors of Science in Human Nutrition in 2020 and then attended the University of Utah for physician assistant school and graduated in 2022.

Mercedes finds purpose in working with and educating women. She prides herself in taking time with her patients and not only treating the disease at hand but also treating each patient individually. She loves Cedar City and is happy to be back. She currently lives in Cedar City Utah with her husband and dog.

Her hobbies include pickleball, anything outdoors, reading, and spending time with loved ones.

Alycia Duncan, FNP

Alycia Duncan is a certified Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP). She graduated from Southern Utah University with her Bachelors of Science in Nursing in 2014. Alycia worked as a Registered Nurse at Cedar City Hospital for six years, with the majority being on Labor & Delivery/NICU.

She then continued her education at the University of Utah where she obtained her Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP) in family practice. Alycia is board certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioner and licensed by the state of Utah.

Alycia and her husband are both from Cedar City and were high-school sweethearts. They have four amazing children. Alycia loves to spend her time with her family camping, hiking, playing soccer, and supporting her kids in their activities. She is excited to serve family and friends and the community she was raised in.

Erin Peterson, PA-C

Erin Peterson PA-C joined The Cedar City Institute of Women’s Health in the summer of 2024 as a certified physician assistant. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Nutritional Science from Brigham Young University in 2020 and completed her physician assistant training at the University of Utah.

With a passion for women’s health and gynecology, Erin values the opportunity to connect with patients and provide personalized care. She has a special interest in assisting couples facing fertility challenges, providing compassionate postpartum care, and helping women navigate menopause with bioidentical hormone therapy.

Outside of work, Erin enjoys reading, hiking with her husband and spending time outdoors. She is excited to support the Southern Utah community, a place she has grown to love.
